Byrd Scores Four Goals, but Eagles' Upended at Home to Point

WILMORE, Ky. -- The Asbury University women's lacrosse team fell at home to Point University 15-7 on Thursday afternoon in AAC play.

The Eagles slip to 2-2 on the season and are now 0-1 in conference play.

Asbury fell behind 1-0 in the first three minutes, but were able to return the favor to even the score at 1-1 after a goal from Ashley Byrd.

PU scored the next five goals and took a 6-1 lead. Aubrey Curell and Byrd scored the next two goals in the half for AU, who trailed 8-3 at the break.

Looking for a comeback in the second half, the Eagles' deicit fell behind further as Point added two more goals and took a 10-3 advantage.

Byrd notched her third goal of the game moments later to bring the deficit back within six with 21 minutes remaining.

Sarah Smith scored off of an assist from Maddie White on an extra man-up opportunity, to make it a 13-5 game with 11 minutes to go.

Byrd converted on her fourth goal of the day followed by another AU goal from Aubrey Curell, but the comeback attempt fell short as the Eagles ran out of time in the second half.

Point controlled the ball and offense for the majority of the day as they out-shot Asbury 41-19.    

Elle Crossman registered 15 saves behind the net.                                                                                                                                       

Asbury is back in action on Tuesday March 12 at home at 2 PM against Saint Ambrose.
