Message from Mark Whitworth, VP for Intercollegiate Athletics
Welcome to the online home of the Asbury University Athletics Department!
I am thrilled that you have taken the time to visit our website and hope that you have found it helpful.
We realize that balancing the demands of a rigorous academic schedule and the daily responsibilities of a student-athlete will be challenging. Please know that our team of dedicated coaches, administrators, and staff is committed to supporting our student-athletes throughout their time at Asbury.
The goal of our intercollegiate athletic program is become the best option for high school students seeking a quality athletic experience and a Christian liberal arts degree. The recent improvements to several of our facilities, including the Luce Center, Bowdoin Athletic Practice Facility and the Kirkland Complex reveal the momentum and support of many who embrace the mission of AU Athletics.
Our mission at Asbury University is to equip men and women for a lifetime of learning, leadership, and service to the professions, society, family and Church. Intercollegiate athletics can and should thrive within this mission.
Our society so often wants to place Sports and those who compete on a pedestal. God wants us to use Sports as a platform to share the gospel of Jesus Christ.
We believe in the power and impact of Sports. We believe in the unique difference a quality athletic experience can make in a person's life. Life lessons, like: TEAM, FAMILY, DEDICATION, PERSEVERANCE, SACRIFICE, VICTORY, and DEFEAT.
It takes a SPECIAL PERSON to "step out" and compete. It takes COURAGE and FAITH. You receive immediate feedback and there is a clear outcome in every competition. Many people go through life and never "step out" in faith. Trust God to bless your efforts!
Our expectations for our student-athletes are defined by these guiding principles.
(1) REPRESENT: We REPRESENT Christ and compete for His glory.
(2) HONOR & PRIVILEGE: It is an HONOR & PRIVILEGE to compete and wear the Asbury uniform.
(3) EFFORT: Always compete with great EFFORT and PASSION.
(4) RESPECT: Always show RESPECT for opponents, teammates, coaches and University.
(5) STUDENT FIRST: Our student-athletes are at Asbury to earn a college degree and we want to help them achieve that goal.
When we commit to these guiding principles, GOD will be glorified, and we will be successful!
