Athletics Liaison for Cross-Cultural Engagement

Asbury Women's Basketball Coach Chad Mayes serves as the Athletics Liaison for the Cross-Cultural Engagement program at Asbury University.

Mayes is the primary contact for assisting student-athletes in their mission trip coordination, providing them with the opportunity to have a cross-cultural engagement experience.

This involves Coach Mayes traveling with the teams, coordinating the details of trips, and connecting student-athletes with the information needed to complete their missions trip experience.

Our team's trip to Puerto Rico was an amazing time of individual growth in humility, kindness, and selflessness. It also included a drastic shift in my view of the world. Not only that, but it grew our team and staff closer to one other, but more importantly, closer to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

It was one of the most humbling and eye opening experiences I have ever had. Working daily with people who do not have much and struggle daily with different hardships and they still wake up every morning with a smile on their face and are willing to give their last dollar to someone else in need makes you understand how much we take for granted. It was a trip that I will always cherish and hopefully will be able to be apart of again in the future!

I could not have been more proud of the Asbury University student-athletes as they were ambassadors for Jesus both on and off the baseball field. I was so impressed with their humility as they served in the depth of discussion we had every night that was informed by their kingdom cross cultural experience during the day. Our future holds bright with students like these in it!
Dr. Dan Lewis
This trip was it an eye-opening experience for me. I realize that you can give a child a shirt and it may be torn up in a week, but if you share with a child about the Lord can stay with him forever.
Senior Outfielder Parker Burge

Women's Lacrosse | May 2-9, 2021 | McAllen, TX with World Gospel Mission
This trip was such a great opportunity to walk alongside the WGM team in McAllen. Some players stepped out of their comfort zones and grew in such awesome ways by sharing their testimonies. Others, it was truly humbling to watch them serve so selflessly the whole week - be it cheering on kids at soccer practices or pulling weeds there was always a smile and eager faces ready to do whatever was needed.

“This trip was a life-changing experience for all of us. Being able to serve a community completely different from our own, and to see the Lord working around the world, left an impact that is hard to put into words. Not only did my faith grow, but I made lasting relationships that I hold dear four years later.”

Cross Country | August 2019 | Medellin, Columbia
I am really excited about this trip and the impact it will have on the team members who were able to go. They have been able to do running at high altitude, they have worked incredibly hard in rugged mountain terrain picking avocados for the prison ministry, and we have been blessed by inspiring Christians who are serving Jesus here in Medellin. This is an eye-opening and life changing experience for many of us on the trip and will certainly bond us closer together.
Cross Country Head Coach Randy Crist
Going to a Colombian church service was amazing. Their love and enthusiasm for Christ was evident despite the language barrier.

Volleyball | July 2019 | Puerto Rico with LYNC 8 Project
It’s physically exhausting but it fills you spiritually. I also find it humbling to witness these players, whom I already know are awesome, come together to serve others!

It opened up my eyes to many things making myself be more grateful for the things I have. I'm so glad I got to experience this adventure with my teammates and my best friends.
Player, Ashley Byrd | Women's Lacrosse | Puerto Rico with LYNC 8
The trip down to Puerto Rico for preseason was an awesome opportunity to bond and build relationships with the guys as well as to be able to serve the local community through the beautiful game of soccer. We were blessed to be able to play against the Puerto Rican National Team and it was a game and experience I will never forget
Player, Noah Welch | Men's Soccer | Puerto Rico with LYNC 8
This Alabama mission trip really opened my eyes to the needs right here in the United States. I'm grateful that I got to serve along side my teammates in order to give back to those communities. The best part about this trip was to build relationships with those I met and to see the smiles on their faces.

Saludos y bendiciones de los Estados Unidos…" is how I began when I was asked to speak on behalf of the team which means: 'Greetings and blessings from the United States.' However, after our week in the DR, we are the ones going home blessed. We have had a great trip overall, and our guys have been a blessing to many people here. I'm very proud of them, as anyone witnessing their actions through the week would have been, too. They loved and served Christ well here.
