TRIBUTE TO AU WOMEN’S LACROSSE

The Asbury women’s lacrosse program began in 2015, competing at the intercollegiate level for the past eight years. Due to the lack of participation and the inability to field a team during the 2022-23 academic year, the difficult decision has been made to discontinue the program.

We sincerely thank the student-athletes, coaches and fans who supported Asbury women’s lacrosse since 2015. We deeply appreciate the dedication and commitment of our head coaches Nicki Stewart and Rich Manieri.

While the sport has not achieved the level of participation at the youth and high school levels in the region to sustain an intercollegiate program at Asbury, we are grateful for the effort and energy invested by many that allowed the program to experience the highlights listed below.

The 2021 women's lacrosse team reached the level of receiving votes in the NAIA Preseason National Poll. The Eagles followed up on the expectations, winning the program's first postseason game defeating Truett McConnell University 19-11 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament Quarterfinals. The 2021 team also placed three student-athletes on the AAC All-Conference Team (Aubrey Curell, Grace Tatro, and Ashley Byrd).

Asbury women's lacrosse alumni will always be welcome on campus and appreciated for their contributions to the University. We are thankful for the impact of this program on our campus and the way in which these student-athletes represented AU. We pray for God’s blessing on each person involved with Asbury women’s lacrosse as they determine their next step.
