WILMORE, Ky. -- The Asbury University women's lacrosse team fell 16-5 to (RV) Marian University on Thursday afternoon.
Asbury falls to 1-1 on the season with the loss.
The Eagles battled terrible weather conditions all afternoon, along with trying to slow down the fast-paced attack of Marian.
MU jumped out to 2-0 advantage, but Ashley Byrd brought the Eagles back within one after scoring on an unassisted goal eight minutes into the contest.
After that goal though, AU would give up six straight unanswered goals over the next 16 minutes of action to take an 8-1 lead.
Allie Hoskins would score the second goal for the Eagles off of an assist from Sarah Smith. Marian led 10-2 at the break.
Asbury fell behind 15-2 later on in the second half after MU netted five more goals.
Sarah Smith tabbed her first goal of the afternoon late in the half and Maddie White posted the final two goals for AU in the last two minutes of the game.
Elle Crossman collected eight saves throughout the game.
Asbury posted 24 shots, with 12 shots landing on-goal.
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday afternoon at 11 AM against (RV) Missouri Baptist. Saturday's match has been slated as Senior Day.
