MIDWAY, Ky.--- Scoring three second half goals in a four minute span, the Asbury women's soccer team (3-0-1) overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat Midway (2-2-0), 3-2.

The Eagles overcame a 2-0 deficit, scoring three unanswered goals in the second half, winning 3-2 to spoil the Midway women's soccer team's first game on its new on-campus turf field Wednesday.

Midway got the game started fast, needing less than a minute to get on the board when Evie Clare scored off a Haylee Applegate assist.

Clare then helped double the lead in the 28th minute, assisting an Anna Kneisley goal that gave Midway a 2-0 lead it held well into the second half.

But even as it held a multi-goal lead, Midway still struggled to contain the Asbury attack, benefiting from several near misses. That all changed in the 68th minute when sophomore Anna Sparks' goal cut the lead to 2-1.

The lead disappeared in the 71st minute when sophomore Maggie Higdon's goal tied the game. 

Then, following a yellow card on Midway, Asbury's Hannah Muncie was awarded a penalty kick, which she converted for her team's third score in a 4-minute stretch.

The scoring output was the highlight of a dominant second half in which Asbury held a 15-4 shot advantage, dropping Midway to 2-2 on the season.

AU's next match comes at home on Saturday, when they take on Spalding at 7 PM

"They were persistent in the second half and didn't stop attacking. It was a brutally hot match for both sides and legs were exhausted. That was evident. The girls pushed through that pain and mentality to get a good result. Different group we have with us this year and it is just beginning. Lots of work is still to be done, but in years past I don't believe we would have come back from that deficit. All eyes forward!"
