Softball Falls Twice at Cumberlands on Monday

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- The Asbury University softball team fell twice on Monday afternoon at the University of the Cumberlands in non-conference play.

The Eagles lost by scores of 10-2 and 8-0.

AU is now 2-6 on the year.

The Eagles are back in action tomorrow in Madisonville, Tenn. against Hiwassee.

Game one

The Patriots came out swinging early and took a quick 7-0 advantage through the first two innings of play.

Asbury responded in the top of the third with two runs scored. Deana Phillips connected on her first home run of the year with a shot over the centerfield wall which scored Paige Hill and cut the lead down to 7-2.

However, AU would not score again the rest of the day and were limited to just four hits in the contest. The Eagles also committed four costly errors in the field.

UC would score twice more in the bottom half of the third and then the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth to clinch the victory at 10-2.

Hill collected a double, while Faith Day and Kamry Wells each tabbed hits throughout the game for Asbury as well.

McKenzie Myer got the start and pitched two full innings. Ally Moore finished the game tossing the final three innings of action.

 

Game two

Errors were costly again for Asbury in the second game of the doubleheader. AU kept UC scoreless for three innings, but gave up four runs in the second and three in the fifth.

Asbury committed five errors in game two.

The Eagles' bats were unable to get anything going all afternoon as they were held hitless throughout the contest.

Paige Hill pitched four full innings and gave up zero earned runs in the outing.

Deana Phillips and Bree Sanders pitched the remainder of the game.
