Asbury Sweeps Doubleheader; Bottom Walk-Off Double Seals Game One

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS

DANVILLE, Ky. --- The Asbury University softball team (7-1, 0-0 CCS) sweeping Olivet (1-2), 4-3, and Centre (4-2, 0-0 SAA), 5-0,  in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, highlighted by a walk-off two RBI double from junior exercise science major Samantha Bottom in game one.

Game One | ASBURY 4, OLIVET 3

The Eagles needed late-game heroics to take the opener against Olivet, rallying in the bottom of the seventh for a 4-3 victory.

Trailing 3-2 entering the final frame, AU capitalized on defensive miscues to set the stage for Bottom. With runners aboard, Bottom delivered a clutch two-RBI double to left-center, scoring the tying and winning runs to complete the comeback.

Daegan Flamm paced the offense with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, while Emma Popplewell added two hits, including a double. Bottom finished with two RBIs, all coming on the game-winning swing.

In the circle, Josie Potter moved to 3-0 on the year, tossing a complete game. She scattered nine hits and allowed just two earned runs while striking out four. Potter worked out of multiple jams and held Olivet scoreless over the final four innings to keep the Eagles within striking distance.

Game Two | ASBURY 4, CENTRE 0

The Eagles carried the momentum into game two and leaned on dominant pitching to secure the sweep.

Sidney Hansen was outstanding in the circle, throwing a complete-game shutout. She allowed seven hits but did not issue a walk, striking out two on a 90-pitch effort.

Offensively, AU totaled 12 hits. Abigail Moffat led the charge with a 3-for-4 and two RBIs, including a double. Abi Thompson added two hits and two RBIs, while Elyanna Rogers collected three hits.

Asbury broke through in the third inning before adding insurance runs in the fifth and sixth. The Eagles played clean defense behind Hansen, committing no errors in the shutout victory.
