Welch Named CCS Women's Soccer Coach of the Year
ATLANTA, Ga.--- Asbury women's soccer head coach Zach Welch was named the 2024 Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Women's Soccer Coach of the Year on Friday afternoon.

Welch, in his second season leading the AU women's soccer program, led the Eagles to a 7-5-5 overall record and went 4-2-2 in the CCS. Asbury had two student-athletes named 1st Team All-CCS (Hannah Muncie and Lauren Davis), and also three earn 2nd Team All-CCS (Maggie Perry, Reese Bolton, Anna Sparks).
"Coach Welch is committed to building the Asbury women's soccer program and investing in his student-athletes both on and off the field," said Asbury VP for Intercollegiate Athletics Mark Whitworth. "We are grateful for his leadership and look forward to seeing this program continue to grow and flourish."
The 2024 campaign comes off Welch's first season leading Asbury with a 2-9-4 record, and after the team winning three matches in 2022. The Eagles finished the 2024 regular season No. 5 in the CCS and travel to Lookout Mountain, GA., on Saturday to play No. 4 Covenant College (9-5-1, 5-2-1 CCS) in the Quarterfinal matchup of the CCS Tournament.
Asbury was second in the CCS of nine teams at goals allowed in 2024, giving up only 18 goals at 1.06 per game. The turnaround comes off AU allowing 1.87 goals per game in 2023 and 3.63 in 2022. AU was honored multiple times throughout the season with CCS Player of the Week honors, including Maliya Crump and Eva De Souza.
Welch is a Asbury University graduate ('13), and was an assistant men's soccer coach at AU from 2014-2022.
