Softball Sweeps Doubleheader at Brescia; Phillips Records 7 RBI in Game Two Win

OWENSBORO, Ky. -- The Asbury University softball team swept RSC opponent Brescia on the road on Friday in Owensboro. AU won game one 1-0 and game two 14-3 in five innings.

The Eagles improve to 5-13 overall on the year and are 2-4 in conference play.

Asbury is back in action tomorrow at IU Southeast in New Albany, Ind.

Game one

Emily Rogers hit the game-winning homerun in the top of the seventh to score the only run of the contest. Asbury finished with hits in the game but held Brescia to just four.

Pitcher Ally Moore picked up the victory inside the circle as she tossed her second complete game this week. Moore struck out six batters in the win.

Rogers finished the first game going 2-3 with an RBI while Faith Day also posted two hits finishing a 2-2 effort offensively.

Paige Hill also recorded a hit for AU.

Game one's victory for Asbury marked their first shutout win of the year.

 

Game two

AU wasted no time in building their lead early on in the second contest. The Eagles scored all 14 of their runs in the first three innings.

Game two was highlighted by Deana Phillips, who finished 4-4 at the plate with two homeruns, including a grand slam and seven total RBI. Phillips has now hit three homeruns already from just this week alone.

Asbury scored eight runs in the top half of the third to completely pull away in the game.

Paige Hill got the win in the circle pitching two completing innings. McKenzie Meyer pitched the final three innings of action in relief. Meyer struck out two batters.

Asbury posted 10 hits in total. Hill finished 1-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Kamry Wells finished 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Emily Rogers also had another strong offensive performance as she collected two more RBI with a hit and two runs scored.

Additionally, Taylor Johnson notched a 1-2 outing at the plate as a pinch hitter and added two RBI. Madison Moss went 1-2 with an RBI and run scored.

Caitlyn Taylor and Sophia Colclasure both went 1-3 on the day.
