BEREA, Ky. --- Both the men's and women's cross country teams turned in impressive performances Saturday at the Berea Invitational. The men's team placed third out of seven competing teams and posted a qualifying team time with its top five runners, earning a berth to the NCCAA National Championships in Joplin, Missouri, later this fall.
Lucas Hollinden led the Eagles once again, finishing 10th overall in the 8K race with a time of 28:11 to earn All-Meet honors. JoJo Ernst also earned individual recognition, placing 15th overall.
Rounding out the Eagles' scoring five were Zabrey Bortz, Noah Smith, and Carlos Fukushige, helping secure the team's strong third-place finish.
The women's team, which had already secured its NCCAA National Championship qualification two weeks ago, continued its strong season with an even faster team performance at Berea.
The Eagles finished second overall behind Centre College and well ahead of the remaining five teams in the field.
Bailey Gassmann paced the Eagles with a third-place finish in the 5K, crossing the line in 20:13. Emma Le Duc followed closely behind in fifth place, recording a personal-best time of 20:24.
Emma Groff was the next Eagle across the finish line, while Beth Ragain and Sophie Boehmler rounded out the team's scoring five.

"I thought this was an excellent race for the entire team. We basically trained through this meet this week and still came up with some big performances.
Emma Le Duc had her fastest race ever by nearly 40 seconds.

Olivia Grace Williams also had big PR's. I was pleased that the men hit the qualifying mark for nationals in their first race at the full 8K distance. It's nice to have that box checked so we can continue to push hard the next few weeks instead of backing off our training just to get our qualifying time."
