OWENSBORO, Ky. --- The cross country team opened their season in Owensboro at the Panther Powell. The women finish second out of four teams behind Vincennes Junior College, but ahead of Campbellsville and Brescia. The men were third out of five teams, trailing Vincennes and Campbellsville, but ahead of Brescia and Bethel.
The women had an excellent race, running a combined team time which qualified them for the NCCAA national championship meet this November.
Emma Groff lead the way with a strong fourth place finish in a new personal best time of 20:29 for 5000 meters. Close behind her in fifth place was
Bailey Gassmann.
Six Eagles won medals for top 15 finishes including
Emma Le Duc,
Sophie Boehmler,
Beth Ragain and
Michele Burgess.
The men's team was paced by transfer sophomore
Lucas Hollinden, who finished seventh in an excellent time of 16:56.
Noah Smith also earned the top 15 medal for placing twelfth in a time of 17:20 for 5000 meters. The men's race had been shortened to 5K due to the near 100° temperature at race time.

The Eagles will now take a two week break from competition, traveling to Berea College on September 19 at 10 AM.
