Sizemore Selected to Represent USA Division-III on Brazil Tour
SANFORD, Fla. --- Asbury women's basketball senior and elementary education major Emily Sizemore has been selected to represent USA Sports on the USA Division-III Women's Basketball Brazil Tour, USA Sports Tours & Events announced earlier this week.
A standout for the Eagles, Sizemore earned a spot on the USA Division-III Women's Red Team, which features some of the top NCAA Division-III women's basketball student-athletes from across the country. Players selected for the tour are recognized for their outstanding performances at the national, regional, and conference levels.
"This is an outstanding group of young women," said USA Sports Tours & Events President Ron Smith. "Many of the players on this year's USA Division III Basketball Brazil Tour had outstanding individual seasons and led their teams into postseason play. This tour is designed to expose players to a great international basketball experience while providing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for educational, cultural, and social growth."
Sizemore, a London, Ky. native, finished fourth in the National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) with 20.6 points per game while shooting 49% from the field in route to being named a Second Team All-American. She also led the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) with 621 total points, surpassing 1,000 career points (1,012) in just two seasons at Asbury.
In addition to her All-American honor, Sizemore earned CCS First Team All-Conference recognition and was named to the D3hoops.com All-Region Third Team.
"To be able to get this opportunity to play basketball overseas is an opportunity, gifted by God, furthermore, to be able to be a student athlete and represent Asbury on a national level makes it even more special that I get to take this image of competing in glorifying Christ together with other athletes around the country is truly special," said Sizemore. "I could never take this opportunity for granted and it is one that it's gonna stay with me for the rest of my life, but I will not only take it as a personal accomplishment, but one that I can represent Asbury in other countries."
The USA Division III Basketball Teams will embark on a 10-day international tour of Brazil from August 4-13, combining high-level international competition with cultural immersion and educational experiences.
"I'm extremely excited for Em to have this opportunity and experience to play in an international setting," said Asbury Women's Basketball Head Coach Chad Mayes. "She will gain a tremendous amount of confidence playing with her teammates from around the United States and then the chance to go play in Brazil is such an incredible feeling of accomplishment for all of her hard work throughout the years! I couldn't be more proud of her."
The tour begins on August 4th with team orientation in Orlando, Fla., before departing for São Paulo, Brazil. The teams will compete against local clubs throughout São Paulo from Wednesday through Friday, experiencing one of South America's premier basketball communities.
Following competition in São Paulo, the teams will travel to Rio de Janeiro, where each squad will play one additional game before concluding the tour.
In addition to competition, the athletes will experience Brazil's rich culture and history through visits to schools, sports teams, and local attractions in São Paulo. While in Rio de Janeiro, the teams will stay along the world-famous Copacabana Beach and visit iconic landmarks including Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain, while also exploring the vibrant Ipanema district and its internationally known beachfront marketplace.
