DEMOREST, Ga. --- The Asbury women's basketball team (8-9, 6-2 CCS) fell on the road to Pidemont University (7-10, 4-4 CCS), 65-52, on Thursday night.
AU battled throughout the opening quarter and stayed within striking distance early. Junior elementary education major Emily Sizemore helped set the tone offensively, scoring seven first-quarter points as the Eagles trailed by just one, 18-17, after 10 minutes of play.
Piedmont found separation in the second quarter, using a balanced scoring stretch and strong rebounding presence to outscore the Eagles and take a 34-27 lead into halftime. The Lions controlled the final minutes and pulled away down the stretch to secure the 65-52 final.
Piedmont held a 53-36 rebounding edge and turned 18 second-chance points into a late cushion compared to Asbury's 10. The Eagles forced 27 Piedmont turnovers while committing 18 of their own.
Bre Jones delivered a key spark off the bench, finishing a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range and totaling 12 points.
Sizemore led all Eagles with 17 points and added five steals, while Camryn Poole contributed 11 points and five rebounds, going a perfect 9-for-9 at the free throw line. Ma'Kiya West added eight points and five rebounds.
