Men's Track and Field

Six School Records and Three NCCAA Qualifiers Claimed at Centre Invite

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
DANVILLE, Ky.--- Competing much of the day in wet conditions ranging from gentle rain to torrential downpours, Asbury men's and women's track and field claimed six AU school records and three additional qualifiers to the NCCAA National Championship competition.

The men finished third out of nine teams in the meet, while the Eagle women's team ended the day in sixth place.

Story Header Notes
Bailey Gassmann improved her own school record to 4:52.31 in the 1500 meter run where she finished in second place. Later in the day she won the 800 meter run in a time of 2:22.88 and ran an anchor leg of 61.5 seconds on the women's third place 4x400 meter relay.

Emma Groff bumped her previous school record in the Pole Vault up to 2.77 meters, two centimeters above the qualifying standard for the NCCAA Championship.

August Price also bettered her previous school record in the Javelin Throw, tossing the spear out to a distance of 23.89 meters.

Wes Preston won the men's 5000 meter run in a new season-best time of 15:46.56

Dan Kersey topped his own school record set a year ago in the 3000 meter Steeplechase by running a time of 10:12.09, good for second place in the event.

Austin Moreland returned from injury to shave half a second off of his school record in the 400 meter Hurdles with a time of 59.84 seconds.

Manny Dut continued to impress as he dipped under 50 seconds for the first time in college. His time of 49.52 took down the school record of 50.02 set by Luke Wheatley last year at the NCCAA meet.

One of the most exciting races of the day saw senior Luke Holton and freshman Coleman Anderson cross the finish line separated by just 2/100ths of a second in the 800 meter run in third and fourth place. Their times of 1:58.42 and 1:58.44 booked their ticket to the NCCAA Championships.

STORY - QUOTE
"The team showed real toughness in some events today, competing in pretty nasty weather. I was really excited for Luke Holton to have a breakout performance in the 800 as well as a relay split of 50.1 in the 400. I like the way many of our athletes are improving. The team is looking forward to competing next week on our home track facilities and hope we'll get a good spectator turnout from their classmates."
Randy Crist | Head Track & Field Coach
