DANVILLE, Ky.--- The Asbury track and field opened the 2026 season on Saturday with an indoor meet in Danville, Ky., hosted by Centre College. The meet was highlighted by multiple AU indoor school records and one student-athlete qualifying for the National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) Indoor Track & Field National Championship.
The meet welcomed seven competing teams, but the competition was unscored from a team standpoint so there were no final team standings in the opening meet for the Eagles.
Asbury freshman exercise science major Tyson Absher set a new indoor school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.46. Absher also ran a time of 7.17 in the 60-meter dash, which qualified him for the NCCAA National Championship meet to be held in February.
Matthew Wilson, a freshman business administration major, set a new indoor school record in the pole vault with a height of 3.70 meters (12' 2").

Jesse Gassmann finished 3rd in the 5000-meter race
Brooke O'Carroll finished 3rd in the Mile
Jojo Ernst finished 3rd in the 3000-meter run
Brendan Funke was 3rd in the shot put

"Good opening effort for us. Normally, we don't start indoor competition until January, so this gave us some insight about things we need to work on. Tyson was certainly a nice surprise joining us after his soccer season."
