Asbury Gray Outdoor Venue

Asbury Gray Outdoor Venue

The Asbury Outdoor Venue is a multi-use facility designed to enrich campus life, impact student formational experience, and grow athletics as a platform to glorify God. It strengthens Asbury’s athletic program and underscores our commitment to holistic student development, particularly to student-athletes who are choosing a University to attend.

Current Asburians and alumni will benefit from its use as a concert, conference, and athletic venue, while prospective students and their families who attend these events will have the opportunity to discover and explore Asbury’s vibrant campus and community.

Asbury Dedicates Gray Outdoor Venue with Reflection and Celebration

Asbury University dedicated the Gray Outdoor Venue on Saturday evening, June 21, 2025, named in honor of President Emeritus Dr. Sandra Gray. The multi-use facility features an eight-lane track, turf field, stadium with grandstand seating, meeting suite/press box, locker rooms and restrooms, and an entrance plaza.

"Our vision was to build a missional, multi-use venue that will enrich campus life and impact the student formational experiencewhile also enhancing Asbury's ability to grow athletics as a platform to glorify God," said Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics & University Communications Mark Whitworth. "We are deeply moved by the generosity and support of those who have made this dream a reality. God continues to work in the hearts of students at Asbury, and this facility will create new opportunities for transformational change to take place. We are humbled and thankful!"

Speakers during the Dedication included Dr. Mark Troyer (VP for Advancement), Becky Wood (Co-chair, Rita Pritchett Stadium Fundraising Committee), Mark Whitworth (VP for Athletics), Dr. Kevin Brown (Asbury President), Larry Brown (Chairman, Board of Trustees), Dr. Sandra Gray (Asbury President Emeritus). Each shared gratitude and reflection on how God has blessed the project vision since breaking ground in 2023 and beyond.

Dr. Sandra Gray served as the Asbury University President from 2007-2019, and her enduring commitment to Asbury's mission continues to impact the University.

"It is fitting that a president who had such a sense of hospitality and love for our students and the Asbury family is honored in this way," said Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Strategic Partnerships, Dr. Mark Troyer. "Her desire to expand Asbury's reach and impact makes this an easy decision to connect her tenure with a venue that will welcome more students, families, and friends to Asbury University for decades to come."

Following a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Asbury alumni, staff, and community members circled at midfield to thank God for His provision and incredible gift to the university and community.

The stadium within the Outdoor Venue will be named for Dr. Rita Pritchett, celebrating her remarkable legacy spanning four decades at Asbury University. Dr. Pritchett was the first female athletic director at the collegiate level in Kentucky, and her pivotal role in advancing sports and sports administration greatly impacted Asbury University athletics, while her dedication to God and discipleship garnered the admiration and love of her students.

We are deeply moved by the generosity and support for this vision to build an outdoor venue that will serve the entire campus community and provide a place for student-athletes, including our new track and field teams, to train and compete. God continues to work in the hearts of students at Asbury and this facility will create new opportunities for transformational change to take place. We are humbled and thankful. The outdoor facility will not only help our track athletes train and compete at a high level but also provide a great venue for Asbury Athletics and the campus community as a whole.
