Bailey and Jesse Gassmann Earn Runner and Rookie of the Year; Seven Eagles Named CCS All-Conference
ATLANTA, Ga.--- On Friday afternoon, the Asbury cross country teams competed at the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Championships in Huntsville, AL. with seven student-athletes earning honors.
Asbury collected two conference honors. Junior social work and adventure education and leadership double major Bailey Gassmann was named CCS Runner of the Year. Freshman adventure education and leadership major Jesse Gassmann was honored as CCS Rookie of the Year.
Seven AU student-athlete's were named as CCS All-Conference runners including Bailey Gassmann, Emma Groff, Jesse Gassmann, and Brooke O'Carroll were all recognized on First Team All-Conference. Dan Kersey, Taylor Greenwell, and Emma Le Duc earned Second Team All-Conference. On top of the seven all-conference runners, AU also added two to the CCS All-Sportmanship team, captains Brooke O'Carroll and Dan Kersey.
Bailey Gassmann, a Churchville, Pa., native, captured the individual women's champion at the CCS Championships, finishing the 6K time (3.8 miles) in 23:28. The junior standout was also named as CCS Runner of the Week, four times this season, highlighted by a first-place finish at the Eagle Opener.
Jesse Gassmann, a Churchville, Pa., native, led the Eagles with a third-place overall finish, clocking a personal-best 27:06 in the 6K (5 mile) race, and improvement of 40 seconds from his previous record. He was a multiple-time CCS Runner and Rookie of the Week honoree this season.
Groff, a Circleville, OH., native, ran a personal-best race, placing third overall with a time of 23:59, knocking a minute an 20 seconds off of her previous record. She earned first team all-conference for the second straight year.
O'Carroll, a Geneva, IL., native, also turned a standout performance, finishing sixth with a time of 24:30.96, shaving 45 seconds off her previous best. The senior captain was also recognized on the CCS All-Sportsmanship Team.
Kersey, a Wayne, IL., native, earned second-team all-conference honors for the second consecutive year after finishing sixth in a season-best time of 27:48. The senior captain, who also honored on CCS All-Sportsmanship team and received CCS Runner of the Week recognition.
Le Duc, a Beaver Dam, Wi., native, finished ninth overall with a time of 24:58.84, trimming 28 seconds off her previous best to secure second team all-conference.
Greenwell, a Louisville, Ky., native, rounded out Asbury's strong performances with a 13th-place finish and time of 25:48.18, nearly a minute faster than her previous personal record, earning her second team all-conference.
