Austin Dunlap Named 2024 Sport Management Student of the Year
WILMORE, Ky. --- Senior men's soccer player
Austin Dunlap was recently named the 2024 Howard Dayton School of Business Sport Management Student of the Year.
Dunlap received multiple scholar awards during the 2023-24 year including Asbury graduating Scholar-Athlete, NCCAA graduating Scholar-Athlete, and Asbury Honor Roll. Austin served as a chair on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), specializing in events and marketing. Dunlap's role played a big part in bringing the Asbury Eagle Awards back to an in-person event on April 24.
Along with his success in the classroom and off the field, the senior men's soccer captain thrived on the pitch during the 2023 season. Dunlap competed in 19 games starting in 15, while recording a team-high seven goals (four game winning goals), two assists, 16 points, and 17 SOG in 935 minutes of action. The NCCAA listed Dunlap as a 2023 Mideast All-Region player for his efforts on the campaign.
Dunlap served as a captain for the 2023 year and played a vital role in AU men's soccer's 11 wins, which was the most the program had won since 2017. The team was highlighted as the Asbury Men's Team of the Year at the 2024 Eagle Awards.
"As a faculty member in higher education for twenty-seven years, I have run across many wonderful young men and women, but always a few stand out above all the rest," said Assistant Professor of Sport Management Michelle Smith. "The student that says, "I got you Prof. Smith" even though they are taking a full academic course load and playing soccer at a D-III level. The student that you can take on a networking trip and you have no worries about how they are going to act or have no problem communicating with those that are important to their career path. This student is one of the first ones to arrive to help set up an event and the last to make sure everything is taken down and put away properly."
