NEWPORT NEWS, Va.--- The Asbury women's basketball team (2-5, 0-0 CCS) traveled to Virginia on Wednesday to take on Shenandoah University (6-2, 3-0 ODAC), falling in game one of the Captains Clash Tournament, 75-70.

Haleigh Releford led the Eagles with 15 points and eight rebounds. She was paced by sophomore
Emily Sizemore's 13 points on an efficient 5-9 from the field.
The Eagles came out hot from the start, outscoring the Hornets 21-15 in the first quarter. AU ended that quarter 8-16 from the field and 4-9 from beyond the arc (44%).
Shenandoah responded in the second quarter, pouring in a game-high 25 points in the frame. The Hornets went 10-15 from the field (67%) and 4-6 from 3PT range (67%) during the quarter, bringing a 40-38 lead into the half.
SU would outscore AU 35-32 in the second half leading to a wire to wire 75-70 win. Asbury cut the lead down to one after a
Haleigh Releford three at the six minute mark, making it 66-65. A back and forth battle during the fourth saw it a 71-70 lead to the Hornets after a
Camryn Poole pull-up jump shot with 45 seconds left.
Four Shenandoah free throws put the game away, sealing the victory for the Hornets.

Camryn Preston both added 10 points each, helping aid the Eagles fight, Preston adding six rebounds.
Carley Hinshaw gathered a career-high eight rebounds (six ORB), leading AU in the department alongside Releford.
Morgan Flannery added seven points and a season-high six steals. Sophomore
Juleigh Anne Tucker drained three 3PT jumpers to tally nine.
Asbury was outshot by the Hornets shooting 27-73 (37%) and 11-38 (29%) from 3PT, SU shooting 28-58 (48%) from the field and 9-20 (45%) from three. AU got to the line seven times, converting five (71%), Shenandoah was 10-14 (71%).
AU was outrebounded 46-31, but gathered 18 steals compared to SU's four turning the Hornets over 27 times.
Asbury will play Wilmington College in the consolation game at the Captains Clash Tournament tomorrow, tipping off at 1 PM in Newport News, VA.
