Asbury Falls to Wilmington in Game Two of Captains Clash

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
NEWPORT NEWS, Va.--- The Asbury women's basketball team (2-6, 0-0 CCS) continued play at the Captains Clash Tournament on Thursday, falling to Wilmington College (4-6, 0-0 OAC) 86-55 in the consolation game.

Asbury was led in scoring by senior multi-media journalism major Haleigh Releford and sophomore biology major Juleigh Anne Tucker, both contributing 11 points each. Releford led AU for a second-straight game in the department, adding seven steals as well. Tucker's came mainly from beyond the arc where she was 3-8, marking six made three's in the two games.

The Quakers got off on a hot start shooting 8-17 from the field and 4-8 from deep to get out to an early 20-8 lead after the first frame.

WC was able to extend their lead in the second quarter, continuing their hot start shooting 7-15 from the field and knocked down two 3 PT. The Quakers outscored AU 19-12, extending their lead to 39-20 at the break.

Asbury's offense got going in the second half, shooting 6-15 from 3PT range over the two quarters and scoring 35 points, but the Quaker offense kept rolling as well. Wilmington rattled off 47 points over the half to secure an 86-55 victory.

The Quakers were led in scoring by Sierra McCoin's 22 points and Stephan Altstaetter's 18 points. The three leading scorers for Wilmington came off the bench, totaling 64 bench points out of the 86 total.

Asbury was paced in scoring by Camryn Preston's nine and Camryn Poole's seven. Carley Hinshaw gathered six rebounds off the bench, she totaled 14 over the two games.

AU shot 18-71 from the field and 7-30 from beyond the arc, Wilmington finished 29-56 and 12-21 from range.

The Quakers controlled the glass outrebounding AU 52-30. Asbury took away 14 steals, turning over WC 27 times. Asbury committed 16 turnovers, giving Wilmington 10 steals.
