Eagles Downed by MSJ in Game Two of Classic


STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
CINCINNATI, Oh.--- The Asbury women's basketball team (2-3, 0-0 CCS) finished their play at the Lauren Hill Classic in Cincinnati on Saturday afternoon, falling to Mount St. Joseph University (4-0, 0-0 HCAC) 72-47.

Sophomore exercise science major Ma'Kiya West led all Asbury scorers with 12 points, and also added six rebounds. West is averaging 7.2 PPG and 5 RPG on the season and has been a force for the Eagles. 

Senior multi-media journalism major Haleigh Releford added nine points of her own and six rebounds to help pace West and the Eagles. 

The game started tough for the Eagles, who found themselves trailing at halftime with a score of 23-37. Despite their efforts to bridge the gap in the second half, Mt. St. Joseph maintained a solid lead, culminating in their victory. The Lions outscored AU 42-24 in the second half, including a 23 point third quarter expanding their lead to 27 headed to the last frame of action. 

Additional notable performances included sophomore Camryn Poole with seven points, five rebounds, and a steal, and sophomore Emily Sizemore who added three points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals. 

Mount Saint Joseph was able to control the boards, outrebounding AU 49-34. The Eagles converted one more three than the Lions did, but was held to 27% from the field, while MSJ shot 39% overall.

Asbury was forced into 22 turnovers as MSJ only 16. The Eagles garnered a season low six team steals, the Lions 13. The Eagles bench added 24 of the 47 points for the team, 12 coming from Ma'Kiya West.

Asbury will have a break in action for a little while, next playing Wittenberg University on December 3 at 6 PM in Wilmore, KY at the Luce Center.
