Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Eagles Force 21 Turnovers, Not Enough, Yield Loss to Wittenberg


STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky.--- For the fourth time in six games, the Asbury women's basketball team (2-4, 0-0 CCS) forced their opponent in to 20 or more turnovers, but ultimately fell at home to Wittenberg University (5-1, 0-0 NCAC), 62-49.

The game was a sponsored by Bluegrass Orthopaedics, the official Team Physician & Orthopedic Provider for Asbury Athletics and also an Official Sponsor of the annual TeamAU Golf Experience.

Senior multi-media journalism major Haleigh Releford led the Eagles in scoring with 13 points, paced by sophomore exercise science major Camryn Poole's 12 on 3-5 from three point land.
Releford added five rebounds and three assists, Poole totaling three boards.

Graduate student Celia Pelfrey knocked down two three pointers to help add to her total of eight points. Sophomore elementary education major Emily Sizemore led the defensive charge, gathering four steals in 31 minutes of action.

Sophomore exercise science major Ma'Kiya West led AU in the rebounding department, collecting eight in 18 minutes of play, adding two steals as well.

Wittenberg was led in scoring by Riane Burton's 13 points, also commanding the boards for a game-high 18 rebounds. The Tigers out-rebounded the Eagles 47-30, giving them the edge in the second chance scores category, 19-11.

AU out-scored WU in the first and third quarters respectively, but the Tigers defense held AU to just 14 total points in the second and fourth quarters, claiming their victory.

The Eagles shot 19-66 (29%) from the field as a team and 5-23 from 3PT (22%). Wittenberg was 24-54 (44%) as a team and 7-22 from deep (32%).

The Tigers out-scored AU in the paint 30-26, but the Eagles claimed 16 points off the 21 WU turnovers. AU only allowed eight points off just nine turnovers for the game, a season-low for Asbury.

There was a total of 12 lead changes throughout the back and forth game.

The Lady Eagles travel to Newport News, VA on December 18 to take on Shenandoah University at 5 PM in game one of the Captains Clash Tournament.
