Asbury women's basketball sophomore guard Celia Pelfrey coordinated with the school to plan this event as an opportunity to connect with the younger generation and be a refresher for her friends and teammates. “We’re all tired, it’s finals week, but these kids are what gives us energy and helps get us through the week,” said Pelfrey.
Kali Kells, an assistant coach on the Asbury women's basketball staff is a fourth-grade teacher at Red Oak and jumped right in to serve when she learned the AU student-athletes were coming to the school.
“A lot of our girls get role models from the internet right now,” said Kells. “One of the unfortunate side effects of COVID was that we had children that sat at home all day and did nothing but be on the internet.” AU female student-athletes created time at the end of their semester to go spend face-to-face valuable time with these students.
