FRANKLIN, In. ---
The Asbury women's soccer team hit the road for the 5th straight game away from their home turf. The team kicked off against Franklin College at 6 pm, in Franklin, In. The Eagles and Grizzlies haven't seen each other on the field since 2006, and were eager to matchup. AU fought hard throughout the match, and were able to possess the game, taking the victory over Franklin, 2-1.
The Eagles started shooting early into the game, with
Audrey Van Lieu taking the first shot of the game just 4 minutes in. The first half of the game resulted in no score for either team, but the competition remained intense. AU was out-shot by Franklin, only taking 2 shots the first half. Franklin ended the half with 5 shots, but no goals scored.
It was the second half where both teams began to step up their offensive play. In the second period, Asbury out-shot Franklin this time, 6-5. 9 minutes into the second period, it was captain
Genevieve Hill to break the tie and find the back of the net for the Eagles. Hill scored off of a penalty kick, which is how she scored in Asbury's most recent game against Mount St. Joseph.
14 minutes later, Hill was back in action, assisting
Delaney Long, who put up the Eagles' second point of the game. Long earned her first goal of the 2022 season. Asbury's goals remained unanswered by Franklin for the rest of the game until 18 minutes remained left in the game, and the Grizzlies scored a goal against the Eagles, putting them on the board. Despite their late effort, the Grizzlies were unable to match the Eagles, ending the game with a final score of 2-1, AU

Asbury finally will end their long stretch of games on the road, and will play on their home turf in Wilmore, Ky., on September 21st. The Eagles will look to earn back to back wins as they host the Transylvania Pioneers. The teams will kickoff
at 7 pm.
