Women's Soccer Comes Up Short Against Transylvania

WILMORE, Ky. --- After a marathon of 5 away games for the Eagles, the Asbury women's soccer team hosted Transylvania this evening on their home turf in Wilmore, Ky. Both teams fought hard throughout an intense match, but the Pioneers came out on top, outmatching the Eagles 3-2.

Throughout the entire first half, shots were taken but no player was able to successfully find the back of the net.
In the half, the Eagles only took 1 shot, taken by Genevieve Hill. The Pioneers, however, were able to get off 12 shots in the first half alone. Goalkeeper Maliya Crump was able to help keep the team alive, racking up 6 saves in Period 1. Regardless, the match remained scoreless still after 45 minutes.

It was the second half where Asbury proved to be ambitious towards goal, tremendously increasing their shots taken since the first half, marking 11 throughout the second.

Within the first 10 minutes of play in the second period, it was the Pioneers to put two goals in the back of the net, setting a lead over the Eagles of 2-0. This set the AU offensive on attack mode, producing an increasingly intense match.

Only 15 minutes after Transylvania's second goal, freshman forward Hannah Muncie was able to answer for the Eagles, finding the back of the net off of an assist from Mary Hostetter. Muncie got a point on the board for AU, setting the score as 2-1.

These are two freshmen who have contributed to the Eagles this season, and will undoubtedly turn into key players in their upcoming years.

However, the Pioneers answered back just 2 minutes later, scoring a goal to change their lead to 3-1.

With 10 minutes left in the game, captain Genevieve Hill was able to add another goal for AU. Hill was assisted by Hannah Muncie, who scored the team's first goal of the night. This put the game at 3-2, with Asbury only down by one goal.
Hill has had an impressive streak, racking up a goal in not only tonight's game, but the Eagles' past two games as well.
This gives Hill a 3 game goal streak.

The Eagles continued to press hard, working relentlessly to earn themselves 3 more attempts at goal.
In the last 30 seconds of the match, AU had one more opportunity to score off of a corner kick, but the team was just shy of resulting in a third goal for the night.

Despite their late effort, the Eagles were unable to match the Pioneers, ending the game with a final score of 3-2, Transy.
