Women's Lacrosse Opens Conference Play with 18-4 Victory

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Asbury University women's lacrosse team rolled past Columbia College 18-4 on Tuesday afternoon in Lexington.

The game was played at Transylvania University due to weather.

With the victory, Asbury improves to 3-1 on the season and is also 1-0 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play.

Highlights
* Both teams traded goals in the first 12 minutes of action with the score knotted up at 2-2.
*AU would score four unanswered goals over the next five minutes of play to take a 6-2 lead.
*Asbury led 6-3 at halftime but would go on to dominate the second half as they outscored CC 12-1.
*Katherine Ivey scored back-to-back goals to get things started in the second half, followed by scores from Mia Doron and Aubrey Curell to take a commanding 10-3 advantage.
*AU scored the first nine goals of the half and would add six more scores over the next five minutes of playing time for a comfortable 15-3 lead.
*Asbury controlled the pace of play and forced 31 Columbia turnovers on the day to help ensure the victory.

Key Stats
*Asbury outshot Columbia by a wide margin of 47-12 and posted 39 shots on-goal.
*Ashley Byrd led the Eagles with a team-high five goals scored on 16 shots. The senior recorded 12 shots on-goal in the win.
*Mia Doron collected a season-high four goals and dished out two assists. Doron also caused three turnovers and scooped up four ground balls.
*Aubrey Curell and Katherine Ivey each tabbed three goals and an assist. Curell finished with a team-high six draw control wins.
*Jade Franchino and Grace Tatro rounded out the scoring for AU with two and one goals scored respectively. Franchino also notched two assists, while Tatro won five draw controls and collected five ground balls.
*Elle Crossman totaled five saves in goal and Abigail Peklo forced a team-high four caused turnovers.
*The Eagles also won the draw control edge 15-6.

Asbury is back in play at home on Saturday at noon against Bethel (Ind.).
