Women's Hoops Wins Regular Season Finale, Collect 20-Win Season

RIO GRANDE, Ohio – The Asbury University women's basketball team won its regular season finale 80-71 against Carlow on Sunday afternoon.

The game was played at Rio Grande on Sunday as a makeup from the originally scheduled game on February 1, which was cancelled due to illness.

With the win, Asbury records a 20-win season for the first time since the 2015-16 year.

Inside the Matchup
Asbury ends the regular season with a record of 20-10 and locks up the No. 3 seed in the RSC West division and advances on the RSC Championship Tournament.

Key Stats
*Jaclynn Ruble and Zaria Napier each scored 16 points apiece to lead the Eagles' offense on Sunday. Ruble knocked down a team-high four threes and Napier collected a team-high 12 rebounds.
*Autumn Herriford finished with 13 points, six rebounds, a team-high five steals and three blocks. The junior was also a perfect 9-9 from the foul line.
*Faith Osborne reached double figures scoring with 14 points on 5-6 shooting from the field. Osborne also had six rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals.
*AU made 12 threes in the win and were 16-21 from the free throw line.
*The Eagles shared the ball well offensively and collected 19 assists altogether.
*Asbury scored a key 21 points off turnovers and totaled 16 steals.
*The Eagles' defense also finished with 10 blocked shots in the victory.

Highlights
 *Asbury built a quick 15-7 lead after strong shooting across the perimeter and took a 21-16 advantage after the first frame.
*AU had a big offensive second quarter, scoring 28 points in the period.
*The Eagles ended the quarter on a 15-3 run to take a double-digit 49-36 lead into halftime.
*Asbury knocked down four threes in the final three minutes of the quarter to cap off the run.
*The strong shooting performance continued early on in the second half as the Eagles extended the lead out to 15 points.
*However, Carlow crept back into the game with an 11-0 run to begin the fourth quarter.
*The Celtics led with six minutes to play, but an 8-0 run from Asbury gave the Eagles a seven-point edge late.
*A bucket in the paint from Osborne and a three from Napier put the game out of reach in the final minute.  
 
 
Next Up
Asbury will travel to Rio Grande again for the River States Conference Championship Quarterfinals on Wednesday against URG at 7 PM.
