RIO GRANDE, Ohio – The Asbury University women's basketball team fell 90-89 in the River States Conference Championship Quarterfinals on Wednesday evening at Rio Grande.
In a highly entertaining game with two ties and seven lead changes, the Eagles' late fourth quarter rally fell just short.
Highlights
*AU led 18-14 late in the first period, but URG closed the quarter on a 9-0 run for a 23-18 advantage.
*The Eagles controlled the pace of play in the second and outscored the Red Storm 28-18 for a 46-41 halftime edge.
*Asbury knocked down eight threes in the first half as
Autumn Herriford led all scorers with 12 points.
*Despite getting out-rebounded 32-14 in the first half, the Eagles scored 15 points off turnovers and closed the half on an 11-2 run.
*URG returned the favor with an 11-2 run to begin the third quarter, which gave Rio a 52-48 lead midway through the period.
*Rio's offense continued to flow and cause problems for Asbury. The Red Storm led by as much as seven in the quarter at 63-56.
*AU erased the lead to just one after a three from
Sarah King at the buzzer made it a 67-66 game heading into the fourth.
*It was a back-and-forth game in the final period, tied at 70 early on.
*Rio's 15-3 run gave the Red Storm their largest lead of the night at 85-73.
*Asbury fought back and cut the lead down to 88-86 with two minutes remaining.
*AU missed their next two opportunities along with two missed free throws in the final 15 seconds which allowed URG to take a four-point lead with two seconds left.

Autumn Herriford scored a game-high 25 points, matching her career-high. Herriford was 10-12 from the foul line and had five rebounds and four assists.

Sarah King tallied 21 points and shot 4-6 from three-point territory.
