Women's Basketball Slips at Home to WVU Tech

WILMORE, Ky. -- The Asbury University women's basketball team fell by a score of 70-50 on Thursday evening to West Virginia Tech in River States Conference play at home.

Asbury, who was coming off a road win at No. 25 Rio Grande, was unable to sustain their early lead and edge.

The Eagles fall to 5-15 and 3-7 in RSC play.

Asbury jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead to open the contest, but a 7-0 run from WVU Tech would push them back ahead 9-8.

The Golden Bears led 13-10 after the first period and extended their advantage out to 25-16 early into the second quarter.

WVU Tech remained out in front by 10 at the halftime mark by a score of 32-22.

The Golden Bears started the second half on a strong note and made it a 40-25 game just two minutes into the third quarter of action.

AU fell behind even further after the Golden Bears stretched out their advantage to 20 late in the third quarter at 55-35.

Asbury trailed 55-39 after third, as West Virginia Tech scored 22 points in the quarter and were efficent on the offensive end.

The Eagles were out-scored in the final period by a margin of 15-11.

Asbury shot 30 percent from the floor on Thursday evening and shot 2-23 from three-point range.

Nave Winn scored a season-high 10 points and led the Eagles in the scoring column.

Sarah Dennison tabbed eight points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Autumn Herriford added eight points and seven rebounds.

Kelsey Johnson and Sarah King both recorded seven points apiece.

The Eagles scored 28 points inside the paint but were limited to just 10-19 shooting from the free throw line on the night.

Asbury will be back in action on Saturday afternoon at 2 PM against Welch at the Luce Center.
