The Eagles completed their best two-year stretch in the school's history at 38-26. The end result was much the same as it was in 2011-12, though, as the Eagles advanced to the KIAC Championship game for just the second time in school history only to fall falling to Point Park 67-58.

In 2011-12, Asbury captured their first KIAC title with a 9-2 mark, sharing the regular season title with Indiana Southeast.  Flener guided the Eagles to the KIAC Tournament championship game, another first in the 21-year history of the program, where they would eventually lose to IUS, 77-64. Flener was named KIAC Coach of the Year for his efforts.

In five years Flener has turned the program from a perennial bottom-feeder to a consistent contender in the KIAC.  Over five years Flener has amassed 85 wins, an average of 17 per season.  In his first full season the Eagles won 15 games for the first time in school history and have since pushed the record to 23.  Flener is the current leader in terms of wins (85) and win percentage (.521) in program history.
