BEREA, Ky. --- The Asbury women's soccer team (2-0, 0-0 CCS) defeated Berea College (0-1, 0-0 HCAC), 2-0, on the road Saturday evening as freshman
Sophia Makedos scored the first goal of her collegiate career.
The Eagles controlled play from the opening whistle, outshooting Berea 15-1 and holding the hosts without a shot on goal and AU also earned six corner kicks.
The breakthrough came in the 13th minute when Makedos finished a chance off an assist from Bria Stiff, giving Asbury a 1-0 lead at the 12:35 mark of the first half.
AU continued to create opportunities and nearly added another before halftime, but Berea goalkeeper Elana Horne kept the deficit at one goal with several saves.
After the break, Asbury continued to dictate the pace. The insurance goal arrived in the 67th minute when Ryan King found the back of the net on an assist from Anna Sparks, extending the lead to 2-0.
Defensively, Asbury was dominant, goalkeeper Sheridan Harrison recorded the shutout as the Eagles limited Berea to just one shot all evening.
