STORY - THE ESSENTIALS

WILMORE, Ky. --- The Asbury softball team (13-13, 3-3 CCS) dropped a midweek doubleheader to Anderson (Ind.) University (8-14, 2-2 HCAC), 3-1 and 9-8.

Game One | ANDERSON 3, ASBURY 1

Anderson struck first with a run in the opening inning and added two more in the third to build a 3-0 advantage. Asbury struggled to capitalize on its opportunities throughout the game, leaving six runners on base.

Samantha Bottom led the Eagles at the plate with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, accounting for nearly half of the team's hits. Elyanna Rogers added a strong day as well, going 2-for-3 with the Eagles' lone RBI.

Asbury finally broke through in the seventh inning when Rogers delivered an RBI single to score Daegan Flamm, but the late rally was cut short.

In the circle, Sidney Hansen allowed three runs over 2.2 innings. Danielle Spiegel provided a strong relief effort, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit.

Game Two | ANDERSON 9, ASBURY 8

Asbury came out swinging, plating two runs in the first inning and adding three more in the third to take an early 5-4 lead. Emily Zink paced the offense with a 3-for-4 performance, driving in two runs, while Moira Tinsley delivered a standout game, going 3-for-5 with a home run and three runs scored.

Samantha Bottom continued her strong day with a double and two RBIs, and Emma Popplewell added three hits of her own as the Eagles racked up 12 hits in the contest.

Anderson responded with a four-run first inning and a three-run fourth to regain control. Asbury battled back, scoring single runs in the fourth, seventh, and eighth innings to keep pace.

Abi Thompson got the start, giving up seven runs over four innings, and Josie Potter came in for relief throwing 3.2 innings giving up three hits and striking out two.

The Eagles had chances late but couldn't hold off Anderson's final push, with a walk-off in extra innings.
