Nova Earns CCS Player of the Year; Eight Named All-Conference
ATLANTA, Ga. --- The Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) recently released their 2026 tennis all-conference teams with eight student-athletes being honored. Sophomore marketing major Katherine Nova claimed CCS Player of the Year.
The Eagles totaled eight all-conference selections, including first-team honorees Nova, Ariadna Zegarra, Ben Moore, and Ignacio Ardiles. Second-team selections included Alexandra Garcia, Malory Watkins, Alejo Britos, and Andres Caceres. Sophomores MaryAlice McVey and Ignacio Murillo were also recognized on the CCS All-Sportsmanship Team.
Nova, a Lexington, Ky., native, after earning Rookie of the Year honors a season ago, she becomes just the second player in program history to be named CCS Player of the Year. She established herself as one of the conference's premier players this season, earning CCS Player of the Year honors after a dominant run at the tops of AU's lineup. Nova competing exclusively at the No. 1 position, she posted a 15-2 overall singles record, including a perfect 7-0 mark in conference play. In doubles, Nova added a 9-5 overall record, contributing to the Eagles success in both singles and doubles competition.
Zegarra, a senior from Lima, Peru, delivered a standout final season. She finished 9-5 overall in singles play, including an undefeated 5-0 mark in conference action, while compiling a 12-3 doubles record.
Moore, a junior from Winter Park, Fla., recorded an 11-7 overall singles mark while going 4-2 in conference play at the No. 1 position.
Ardiles, a senior from Buenos Aires, Argentina, finished the regular season 12-5 overall in singles and a perfect 6-0 in conference matches.
Garcia, a freshman from Port St. Lucie, Fla., turned in an impressive debut season. She posted a 9-7 overall singles record, including a 6-1 mark in conference play, while also finishing 9-7 in doubles competition.
Watkins, a junior from Garrard County, Ky., posted an 8-6 overall singles record and an 8-5 doubles mark.
Britos, a senior from Buenos Aires, Argentina, wrapped up his career with a 9-5 overall singles record, including a 4-1 mark in conference competition.
Caceres, a junior from San Jose, Costa Rica, compiled a 10-6 overall singles record and went a perfect 5-0 in conference play.
McVey, a Corbin, Ky., native, was named to the CCS All-Sportsmanship Team, an award that honors one player from each team in the Conference who exudes sportsmanship and honor for the game, while playing at a high level. MaryAlice embodies the mission of Asbury Athletics to serve, train, and compete for the glory of God.
Murillo, a San Jose, Costa Rica., native, was named to the CCS All-Sportsmanship Team, an award that honors one player from each team in the Conference who exudes sportsmanship and honor for the game, while playing at a high level. Ignacio embodies the mission of Asbury Athletics to serve, train, and compete for the glory of God.
