Eagles Come Up Short in Doubleheader at Transylvania

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS

LEXINGTON, Ky. --- The Asbury softball team (10-10, 0-2 CCS) came up short in both games of a road doubleheader against Transylvania University (16-4, 0-0 HCAC) falling 10-2 in game one and 8-2 in game two.

Game One | TRANSYLVANIA 10, ASBURY 2

Transylvania took control early in the opener, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding another in the second to build a 3-0 lead.

AU responded in the third inning, cutting into the deficit with a pair of runs. Abigail Moffat delivered an RBI hit, and Emma Popplewell followed with an RBI of her own to bring the Eagles within one at 3-2.

The Pioneers answered in a big way in the fourth inning, plating five runs to break the game open. Transylvania continued to add on with runs in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the 10-2 victory.

Moffat and Tori Giurgevich each recorded a hit and scored a run, while Popplewell drove in a run. The Eagles were limited to three hits in the contest.

Game Two | TRANSYLVANIA 8, ASBURY 2

Transylvania once again struck first, scoring a run in the second inning before using a four-run third inning to extend its lead to 5-0.

The Eagles answered in the fourth inning, as Samantha Bottom delivered a two-RBI single to score Giurgevich and Elyanna Rogers, cutting the deficit to 5-2.

The Pioneers added three insurance runs in the sixth inning to pull away and complete the doubleheader sweep with an 8-2 win.

Bottom led AU with two RBIs, while Moffat, Emily Zink, Popplewell, Giurgevich, and Rogers each tallied a hit as Asbury finished with six hits in the game.

The Eagles will host CCS opponent Wesleyan College on Saturday March 28 for a doubleheader starting at 2 pm.
