WILMORE, Ky. --- The Asbury softball team (9-5, 0-2 CCS) opened conference play against Piedmont University (12-7, 2-0 CCS) on Friday, dropping both games of the doubleheader, 12-4 and 9-1.
Game One | PIEDMONTÂ 12, ASBURY 4
Piedmont struck early and often in the opener, scoring four runs in the first inning and adding four runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to secure a 12-3 win.
Asbury answered with two runs in the second inning and added another in the fifth. Emma Popplewell led the Eagles offensively with a two-run home run, while Elyanna Rogers tripled. Abigail Moffat and Samantha Bottom each added a hit.
Josie Potter took the loss in the circle, allowing eight runs over four innings. Abi Thompson pitched two innings in relief.
Game Two | PIEDMONT 9, ASBURY 1
The Eagles kept things close early in game two, holding Piedmont scoreless through the first two innings. The Lions broke through with two runs in the third before Asbury responded with its lone run in the fourth.
Piedmont pulled away in the fifth inning, scoring seven runs to take control and seal the 9-1 victory.
Daegan Flamm recorded AU's only hit of the game, while Moira Tinsley scored the lone run. Emma Popplewell drove in the run with a sacrifice fly.
Sidney Hansen allowing nine runs over 4.1 innings. Elizabeth McIntyre recorded the final two outs in relief.

The Eagles will host Spalding University on Saturday March 21 at 1 and 3 pm.
