Nova and Garcia Tabbed CCS Player and Rookie of the Week
WILMORE, Ky. --- On Tuesday afternoon, the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) announced its weekly awards, highlighting Asbury's sophomore marketing major Katherine Nova as the CCS Player of the week and freshman accounting major Alexandra Garcia as the CCS Rookie of the Week.
Nova, a Lexington, Ky., native, continued her dominant play at the top of the lineup, going a perfect 4-0 across singles and doubles to lead AU to a 2-0 week, including a conference win over Maryville. Competing exclusively at the No. 1 position, she secured straight-set singles wins over both Maryville and St. Ambrose, each by identical 6-3 scores.
In doubles, Nova teamed with Alexandra Garcia for a pair of 6-3 victories at the No. 1 spot. With her performance, Nova improves to an impressive 23-2 overall record in No. 1 singles play over the past two seasons.
Garcia, a Point Saint Lucie, Fla., native, turned in a strong all-around week, going undefeated in both singles and doubles to help guide AU to a 2-0 record. She posted a 2-0 mark at No. 3 singles, earning straight-set victories over Maryville (6-1, 6-3) and St. Ambrose (6-4, 6-2).
