MARYVILLE, Tenn. --- The Asbury women's basketball team (13-11, 11-4 CCS) fell on the road at Maryville College (14-9, 10-5 CCS), 73-60, Tuesday night.
The Scots set the tone early, opening the game on a strong first-quarter surge to take a 26-13 lead. Asbury responded with its best offensive stretch in the second quarter, shooting over 50 percent from the floor and trimming the deficit to 45-33 at the break, but Maryville maintained control throughout the contest.
The Eagles continued to battle in the third quarter, matching Maryville point for point at 17 apiece, but the home team's balanced attack and depth off the bench prevented any sustained comeback.
AU struggled offensively in the fourth quarter, shooting just 2-of-11 from the field as Maryville closed out the win.
Maryville finished the night shooting 45.8 percent overall and received 39 bench points, while the Eagles shot 40 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from three-point range.
Emily Sizemore led all scorers with 25 points, shooting 9-of-16 from the field while adding six free throws. Ma'Kiya West followed with 16 points, knocking down five three-pointers to account for the bulk of Asbury's perimeter offense. The duo combined for 41 of the Eagles' 60 points.
