WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury University Athletics is pleased to announce
Lucy Cole as the new head coach of the Asbury Cheer program. Cole enters her first season leading TeamAU, bringing a strong connection to the university, a background in athletics and experience in leadership and coaching.
A 2023 graduate of Asbury University, Cole earned her bachelor's degree in journalism and competed as a member of the Asbury women's cross country program from 2020–2023. Following graduation, she spent three years working as a television news reporter at WKYT in Lexington, Ky. Her background also includes experience in pageants, theater, dance and pageant coaching.
Cole is excited to build on the foundation established by former head coach Katie Wall while continuing to develop the program and its student-athletes.
"My mission is to unite this team, build on the momentum already in motion, and honor God in every step," Cole said. "As strong women of God, we have the opportunity to be an example both on and off the sidelines. I'm excited to continue the work of former coach Katie Wall, grow this program, and see all that God has in store for Asbury Cheer!"
Cole's ties to Asbury extend beyond her time as a student-athlete. After graduating in 2023, she married her college sweetheart, Jackson Cole, who currently serves as Asbury's assistant baseball coach. Her younger sister, Tess, is also a member of the Asbury Cheer program.
Outside of coaching, Cole enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing with her niece and nephew, and trail running. She also serves as a children's leader with Bible Study Fellowship at Centenary Baptist Church and enjoys renovating her family's newly purchased historic home.
"We're so excited to have Lucy join the TeamAU staff and lead our cheer program," said Director of Athletics
Ben Andrews. "Our team has so much good momentum coming off an historic year and I'm confident Lucy and Whitney (Shouse) will guide and direct the team to another exciting year."
