Asbury Cheer to Compete for First Time in Program History
WILMORE, Ky.--- The Asbury University cheer program is set to make history this spring, as the Eagles prepare to compete in their first-ever cheerleading competition on March 7th in Fayetteville, NC.
Under the leadership of head coach Katie Wall, Asbury Cheer has taken a significant step forward by transitioning into competitive cheerleading, marking a new chapter for a program that has historically supported athletics exclusively from the sidelines.
The program identified the Christian Cheerleading Association of America (CCA) as the right competitive fit for AU. Asbury will compete in the "gametime division," a category that mirrors the team's daily responsibilities on the sidelines at athletic events.
The Eagles will travel to Fayetteville on March 6 before taking the competition on March 7, officially marking the first competition appearance in program history.

The historic debut comes during a standout academic year for Asbury Cheer. Nine athletes earned Dean's List honors this semester, underscoring the team's commitment to excellence. To be considered for the dean's list, athletes must maintain a 3.50 term GPA in 12 or more graded credits.
"Our athletes deserve to be celebrated," said Katie Wall. "They're balancing demanding academic schedules while fully committing to this opportunity. Their dedication has been incredible."
