Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Eagles’ Bench Provides Spark to Propel Past Huntingdon for Sixth CCS Win, 79–52

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky. --- The Asbury women's basketball team (8-8, 6-1 CCS) used a strong bench performance to pull away from Huntingdon College (7-9, 4-3 CCS), 79-52, for their sixth Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) on Saturday afternoon in Wilmore, Ky.

The game was sponsored by Bluegrass Orthopaedics, a proud corporate sponsor of Asbury Athletics, and the Team Physician & Orthopedic Provider of TeamAU.

After building a seven-point lead at the end of the first quarter, the Eagles outscored the Hawks 20–16 in the second quarter to take a 37–26 lead into halftime.

Asbury then widened the gap in the second half with an 18-point third quarter followed by a 24-point fourth to secure the win.

AU's bench provided an immediate spark, accounting for 29 points and helping the Eagles maintain momentum. The second unit also contributed defensively, forcing turnovers that led to transition opportunities and easy baskets.

Junior exercise science major Ma'Kiya West filled the stat sheet for the Eagles, finishing with 13 points, seven rebounds, four steals and two assists in 19 minutes of action. Junior Emily Sizemore led all scorers with 16 points while adding three steals, and Anna Hellums chipped in nine points, three blocks and two assists.

The Eagles capitalized on Huntingdon's miscues, scoring 27 points off turnovers, and Asbury also won the fast-break battle, 16–4, as its defensive pressure fueled offense.

The Eagles shot 42.5 percent from the field (31-of-73), including 26.3 percent from three-point range (10-of-38), and converted 53.8 percent of free throws (7-of-13). Huntingdon struggled offensively, hitting just 34.4 percent from the field (21-of-61) and going 0-for-11 from beyond the arc.

STORY - QUOTE
"I felt like we were a little sluggish in the first half, but our second team had a lot of energy and really jump started our team. Then when we started the second half, our first group really got going moving the ball and showed they were ready to go. It was a great team effort overall and I was very pleased."
