WILMORE, Ky. --- Junior biology pre-dental major
Trinity Britton made two clutch free throws to push the Asbury women's basketball team (7-8, 5-1 CCS) past Maryville College (4-8, 1-4 CCS), 61-58, on Tuesday night in Wilmore, Ky.
The game was sponsored by Chick-Fil-A, a proud corporate sponsor of Asbury Athletics, and the official quick service restaurant of TeamAU.
The game featured 11 ties and nine lead changes as both teams traded momentum throughout the night. The Eagles were tied with Maryville, 17–17, after the opening quarter before taking a 31–29 advantage into halftime.
The Scots regained control coming out of the break, outscoring Asbury 18–11 in the third quarter to take a two-point lead entering the final period. AU struggled offensively in the frame, shooting just 23.8% from the field.
AU responded with its best quarter of the night, clamping down defensively and outscoring the Scots 19–11 in the fourth. The Eagles shot 54.5% from the floor in the final 10 minutes and went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
With the game on the line, Trinity Britton knocked down the game-winning free throws in the closing seconds to seal the victory. Britton finished with six points, all from the stripe.
Asbury finished with a 15–10 advantage in points off turnovers and held Maryville to just 30.8% shooting in the fourth quarter.
Freshman Anna Hellums led all scorers with a career-high 21 points, shooting 8-for-15 from the field and 4-for-9 from three-point range. Emily Sizemore followed with 20 points and five rebounds, while Camryn Poole added seven assists to help steady the offense.

"I'm super proud of the fight we showed tonight. Maryville is always very tough and we knew this would be a tough game and go down to the end. The fact that we never panicked when we got down 7 in the 4th quarter shows the growth of our team. They believe in what we're doing and trust each other in these situations. This will definitely help us going forward."
