Asbury Athletics Captures 2024-25 Collegiate Conference of the South Commissioner's Cup

ATLANTA, Ga.--- After securing six Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Championships in its inaugural season in the conference, Asbury Athletics captured the 2024-25 CCS Commissioner's Cup Co-Championship alongside Piedmont University.

“The Commissioner's Cup represents the depth and dedication of our student-athletes and athletic departments across all sports,” said CCS Commissioner Beth Vansant. “We are thrilled to celebrate the continued success of our returning members and the remarkable debut by our newest institution, Asbury University. Their accomplishments speak volumes about the growth and competitive balance of our league.”

The CCS Commissioner's Cup is awarded annually based on a point system that reflects regular season standings and top four finishes in conference championship tournaments. Institutions receive four points for each conference title, three for runner-up finishes, and 1.5 for third- and fourth-place finishes. The overall award is calculated from the combined results of both men’s and women’s programs.

This year’s awards highlight three CCS institutions: Belhaven University claimed the Men’s Commissioner’s Cup, Piedmont University earned the Women’s Commissioner’s Cup, and Piedmont and Asbury University will share honors as Overall Commissioner’s Cup Co-Champions.

This is a great indication of the commitment and dedication of the student-athletes and coaches at Asbury University. We are honored to earn this distinction and congratulate our friends at Piedmont and Belhaven on their accomplishment. We are grateful for the opportunity to compete as a member of the CCS and look forward to working together to grow and enhance the league.

Asbury's success opened in the 2024 fall season with a women's cross country championship on November 1 in Clinton, Miss., led by sophomore Bailey Gassmann's 24:07.79 4K finish. The Asbury volleyball team won 15 of its 16 CCS regular-season matches, earning the outright Regular Season Championship and the right to host the CCS Tournament.

AU women's basketball followed suit in the winter, going 14-2 in the CCS with 12 consecutive conference wins from January 14 to February 12. The Eagles' success earned a CCS Regular Season Co-Championship with Piedmont University.

In the spring season, Asbury men's and women's tennis teams each won a CCS Tournament Championship, making history as the first-ever Asbury programs to earn a berth in an NCAA Division III National Tournament. AU men's tennis also went a perfect 6-0 in the CCS during the regular season, achieving the outright CCS Regular Season Championship.
