Asbury Welcomes Cam Gray and Trey McCarty to TeamAU
WILMORE, Ky. --- Asbury University Athletics, in partnership with Bluegrass Orthopaedics, is pleased to announce the addition of Cam Gray as TeamAU's new Head Athletic Trainer and Trey McCarty as Athletic Trainer.
Originally from West Greenwich, Rhode Island, Gray moved to Kentucky to pursue his graduate studies at the University of Kentucky. He brings five years of experience as a certified athletic trainer to Asbury, including the past three years serving at Lindsey Wilson University.
As Head Athletic Trainer, Gray will oversee the health, wellness, and care of Asbury's student-athletes while leading the athletic training staff and supporting the department's continued commitment to excellence in sports medicine.
Gray earned his graduate degree from the University of Kentucky and is a Board Certified Athletic Trainer. Throughout his career, his mission has been centered around maintaining the health and safety of student-athletes while helping them reach their full potential both on and off the field.
"I'm looking forward to being part of the Asbury family," said Gray. "I'm excited to start working with our student athletes and helping them return to a high level of competition within their respective sports. I'm also extremely excited to be part of an institution which values the word of God as much as Asbury does."
McCarty joins TeamAU after earning his bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and then completing his master's degree in Athletic Training at the University of Kentucky.
A native of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, McCarty brings a passion for sports medicine, athlete care, and building meaningful relationships with student-athletes. He will assist in providing comprehensive medical care and support for Asbury's athletic programs.
"My mission is to keep athletes healthy, so they can be their best on the field and also off the field later in life, while also serving with the love of Jesus to be helpful and supportive of all athletes." McCarty said.
McCarty played soccer at Montgomery County High School from 2014-2017 and continues to enjoy sports in his free time. His hobbies include watching and playing sports, watching movies, swimming, and traveling. He is a fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Falcons and enjoys spending time with his family.
We are pleased to welcome Cam and Trey to our Sports Medicine staff and the #TeamAU family," said Director of Athletics Ben Andrews. "Alongside Katelin Estes, they will play an integral role in delivering expert, high-quality sports medicine services that help our student-athletes perform at their best. We look forward to introducing them to the Asbury community and are excited for the immediate impact they will make."
Gray and McCarty began their work in July and have been preparing for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
