SEWANEE, Tenn. --- Asbury softball (16-10, 5-5 CCS) traveled to Sewanee (7-19) on Saturday for a non-conference doubleheader, grabbing a sweep over the Tigers. The Eagles slighted Sewanee in game one 3-1 and completed the sweep in game two with a 9-0 victory.
Sophomore english major
Emily Zink ignited the offensive charge for AU on the day. Zink posted four hits, a double, a run, and an RBI over the two games. Sophomore elementary education major
Emma Popplewell aided Zink's efforts with three hits of her own adding four RBI.
Sidney Hansen and
Josie Deatherage both posted complete games in the pitching circle for AU. Hansen got the nod game one earning her fifth win of the year. The sophomore allowed just four hits and one earned run en route to the win. Deatherage went six innings allowing four hits and no earned runs, grabbing her sixth win of the season.

Asbury got the scoring started in the fourth inning off a
Emma Popplewell ground out, scoring
Kaitlyn Wilson to take a 1-0 advantage.
Sewanee responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the fifth to knot the game at one.
The difference came in the top of the sixth when Popplewell added to her day with a two-RBI single, scoring
Emily Zink and
Moira Tinsley breaking the tie and pushing the score to 3-1.
Danielle Oldfield,
Emma Popplewell, and
Emily Zink all had multiple hits during game one for AU.
Hansen closed out the win in the bottom of the seventh. After a lead-off single from the Tigers, she retired the next three for her fifth win of the campaign.
Game Two | ASBURY 9, SEWANEE 0
Kaitlyn Wilson,
Emily Zink, and
Moira Tinsley got the offense started early in game two, each providing an RBI scoring one run each to push AU out to an early 3-0 lead over the Tigers.
There was no scoring from either side until the sixth inning when the Eagles offense struck again, this time with six runs.
Daegan Flamm and Emma Popplwell each recorded one-RBI doubles, while
Josie Deatherage,
Kaitlyn Wilson, and Abby Moffat each added their own RBI's, extending the Asbury lead to 9-0.
Josie Deatherage finished the complete game shutout in the sixth frame for her sixth win of the season and the Eagles 16th.
Asbury's offense provided 10 hits, nine runs, and six RBI in game two.
The Eagles improve to 16-10 on the season, moving to the latter half of their schedule with six conference games still left.
"After not being able to play for a bit due to the weather, it was nice to finally get back to it yesterday. The team performed extremely well on defense, backing up our pitchers. Our hitters were aggressive and found ways to produce. It was a good day! Let's carry this momentum into Tuesday's game against Covenant."
