No. 10 Huntingdon Takes CCS Doubleheader Over Asbury

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky. --- Asbury softball (8-8, 1-5 CCS) returned home after a Friday afternoon split for a doubleheader on Saturday with No. 10 ranked Huntingdon College (19-2, 2-0 CCS), dropping both games, 8-0 and 9-0.

Emma Popplewell had the lone base hit in the first game for AU in the bottom of the fifth inning. Emily Zink and Danielle Oldfield worked walks during the game one affair for the Eagles.

Popplewell had another base hit in game two as junior Natalie Ison and Emily Zink added two of their own to aid the Eagles offensively. Josie Deatherage came on to pitch in relief for AU, going 1.1 innings and allowing zero earned runs.

Game One | HUNTINGDON 8, ASBURY 0
A Riley Rudick RBI double got things going for Huntingdon in the first, scoring Miranda Treadway making these 1-0 after one.

The Hawks scored three more runs in the fourth inning off Maddie Hubbard and Jordan Holman RBI's taking things to 4-0 headed into the fifth inning.

Four more runs were added on in the top of the fifth for HC, and Asbury was unable to respond in the bottom of the fifth, solidifying the 8-0 win for the Hawks.

Emma Popplewell singled in the fifth to move Samantha Bottom and Kaitlyn Wilson into scoring positions, but were unable to be plated across.

Kaylee Strunk started her fifth game for the Eagles going 4.1 innings, striking out two. Amanda Harmon pitched the other two-thirds innings allowing zero earned runs.

Game Two | HUNTINGDON 9, ASBURY 0
The Hawks got on the board first again in the first inning off a Miranda Treadway RBI double to take a 1-0 advantage.

Kaitlyn Wilson singled in the bottom of the first, but would not score to keep things at 1-0 into the second.

Emily Zink and Emma Popplewell each singled in the second but were stranded on base, keeping the score stale at 1-0 in favor of the Hawks.

Huntingdon added two runs on three hits in the third, Asbury stranding Natalie Ison in their third inning half, giving the Hawks a 3-0 lead.

HC added on to their lead in the fourth with three runs on four hits to take a 6-0 lead. The Hawks put up another three spot in the top of the fifth, shutting out AU in the bottom half to secure their 9-0 win.

Asbury threatened in the bottom of the fifth loading the bases off a Abigail Moffat walk ands singles from Kaylee Korros and Moira Tinsley, but ultimately left on base.

Josie Deatherage pitched in relief for AU going 1.1 innings and allowing zero earned runs.

Asbury moves to 8-8 overall and 1-5 in the conference. Huntingdon improves to 19-2 overall and 2-0 in the CCS.

Asbury will next travel to Berea College to take on the Mountaineers on Wednesday, March 26 in a doubleheader starting at 4:30 PM.
