BEREA, Ky. --- The Asbury softball team (10-8, 1-5 CCS) scored 18 runs in two games to sweep Berea College (2-14) on Wednesday in Berea, Ky., 8-2 and 10-0, led by AU sophomore equine assisted services major
Abigail Moffat's six hits and four runs scored.
Moffat had her fourth home run of the year during the doubleheader and also extended her team-high double amount to seven this season. She is third in the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) with a .917 slugging percentage and a 1.46 on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS).
Asbury's offense had 23 hits on the day with 12 in game one and 11 in game two. Asbury's pitching staff held Berea to 10 hits in the doubleheader, and the AU defense committed only three errors.

Moira Tinsley tied Moffat for a team-high in home runs with her fourth of the year. Tinsley had four hits on the day with a double and three RBIs.

AU sophomore right-hander
Sidney Hansen pitched a complete game win in the first matchup, holding Berea to one earn run, one walk, and striking out four hitters. Hansen leads Asbury with a 3.44 ERA and four wins.
The game was tied after the fourth inning at 2-2, both teams scratching a run in two of the first four innings. In the fifth Asbury used three hits and a Berea error to score five runs, taking a 7-2 lead. Hansen and the AU defense held Berea at two the rest of the matchup, earning the 8-2 victory.

Azlynn Day hit her second home run of the year in the game, a solo shot to left field directly after Moffat's home run to left center.

Senior intercultural studies major
Josie Deatherage threw a complete game shutout for Asbury in the second game, taking her third win of the year after 5.0 innings with four hits, one walk, and three strikeouts.
AU scored five runs in the first two innnings and then put up three more in the fourth, finishing the game early in the fifth at 10-0. Asbury senior
Kaitlyn Wilson had two hits in the game with her first triple of the year.
"Yesterday was a lot of fun. The girls came out hungry to get a win. They competed well, played loose, and were confident. Everyone had a part to play and they played it well. I think this is the confidence boost we need going into conference play this weekend."

The Eagles will travel to Decatur, Ga., to play Agnes Scott College on Friday in a CCS doubleheader that starts at 3 pm.
