MACON, Ga. --- After taking down Agnes Scott on Friday night, Asbury women's basketball (10-7, 7-1 CCS) had a quick turnaround on Saturday, defeating Wesleyan College (0-16, 0-10 CCS) 79-50 for their seventh straight victory.
Asbury was led in scoring by senior multi-media journalism major
Haleigh Releford's 22 points. Releford shot 8-14 from the field and 6-9 beyond the arc to lead the Eagles. The Stanford, Ky., native leads the team in scoring averaging 12.4 PPG. The guard also grabbed six boards and collected three steals on the afternoon.
Ma'Kiya West and
Juleigh Anne Tucker helped Releford in the scoring department pouring in 12 and 11 respectively. West added three rebounds and two assists, while Tucker knocked down three 3PT's to help aid AU.
Liz Boyd added eight points and four rebounds off the bench. The Prospect, Ky., native is averaging 5.1 PPG and 4.1 RPG since joining the Eagles at the semester break.
Morgan Flannery lifted AU aiding with five points and four rebounds.
AU used big first and second quarters to push out to a 44-26 lead at the break. The Eagles didn't stop in the second half out-scoring WC 35-24 to pull to a 79-50 win, Asbury out-scored the Wolves in every period of the match.
Wesleyan was led in scoring by Zariah Davis' 19 points. Briscia Tejeda brought in a game-high 14 rebounds, while Jatayah Bryant poured in 10 points off the bench for WC.
The Wolves out-rebounded the Eagles 40-37 through today's game. AU grabbed 11 boards offensively while WC collected 13 ORB.
AU finished 30-66 (46%) from the field while Wesleyan shot 19-59 (32%). The Eagles converted on 10 shots beyond the arc while the Wolves finished with five.
Asbury committed just 13 turnovers on seven Wolves steals, Wesleyan committed 24 turnovers on 15 steals for the Eagles. AU has turned over their opponents doube-digit times in 15 of their 17 games.
Asbury scored 32 bench points, with every single Eagle seeing the floor in action today for the second straight game.
There were three lead changes and two ties throughout the match, AU leading from the three-minute mark in the first and on.
Wesleyan drops to 0-10 in the conference, while Asbury improves their standing to 7-1 in the CCS, good enough for first place in the conference.
The Wolves and Eagles will match-up next on Saturday February 22 at 2 PM in WIlmore.
"I was very pleased with this win. It's always good when you can get a win when you don't play well. The ladies were able to grind it out for 40 minutes with us not playing our A game. Sometimes you learn more in those situations than you would if you are playing great. It's a long season and you will have games like this, so we were able to learn a lot about our resiliency and toughness."

Asbury will travel to Covenant College on Tuesday to take on the Scots in Lookout Mountain, GA at 5 PM concluding their three game road stretch.
