DANVILLE, Ky. --- The Asbury women's basketball team (1-4, 0-0 CCS) dropped a tight battle to Centre College (5-0, 0-0 SAA), 70-68, over the weekend in Danville, Ky.
The game began with Centre gaining an early lead, propelled by Arin Nipp's opening three-pointer. Asbury's junior elementary education major Emily Sizemore, quickly responded, keeping the game tight with her aggressive play and scoring.
Centre's Lindsay Jessie played a pivotal role, consistently adding to the scoreboard, which resulted in Centre leading by 11 points at the end of the first period. The initial period concluded at 22-11 in favor of Centre.
Asbury, however, turned the tables in the second period, with significant contributions from junior Ellie Heid and defensive plays by junior Ma'Kiya West. Sizemore continued her scoring streak, helping the Eagles momentarily lead, though Centre managed to recover and ended the half with a score of 34-29.
AU's resilience was highlighted by sophomore Camryn Poole's three-pointers and freshman Anna Hellums's playmaking, distributing six assists. The third period saw a determined Centre team extending their lead, with Lindsay Jessie scoring crucial points. Despite Asbury's efforts, led by Sizemore's consistent performance, Centre maintained the upper hand, finishing the period at 54-46.
Centre's Charley Harper's timely three-pointer and Arin Nipp's final plays were critical in sealing the game for Centre in the fourth quarter. Sizemore emerged as the standout player for the Eagles, scoring a season-high 28 points.

"It was a great effort today by the team, but the comeback was just not enough. If we had another minute, or so, I believe we could have finished it off. We still got a shot off to tie it up, but it just wasn't meant to be. Em had another terrific game, but to be honest, I thought our whole team gave a tremendous performance against Centre, who is probably one of the top teams in their conference, if not the number one team. They won it last year and went to the NCAA tournament and they will make another run this year."
