WILMORE, Ky. --- The Asbury women's basketball team (0-1, 0-0 CCS) dropped in their season opener on Tuesday night in Wilmore, Ky., falling to NCAA DIII opponent Spalding University (2-1, 0-0 SLIAC), 68-58.
Spalding shot 39% from the field and went 19-24 (79%) from the free-throw line to pull away late. The Golden Eagles outscored Asbury 27-20 in the fourth quarter.
Asbury shot an efficient 46% from the floor, connecting on five three-pointers and converting 17 of 30 free-throw attempts. The Eagles were outrebounded by Spalding, 44-26.
AU had three players in double-digit scoring, including
Camryn Poole (12),
Morgan Flannery (12), and
Ellie Heid (11).
Poole, a sophomore exercise science major, went 5-13 from the field with one three, three rebounds, and two steals. Junior elementary education major,
Emily Sizemore added eight points, six rebounds, and four assists.
Spalding's Zeneiya Batiste recorded a double-double with 15 points and 18 rebounds.
